An Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute of London (www.cii.co.uk) since 1985, a pioneer student of the College of Insurance and Risk Management, West Africa Insurance Institute, Monrovia, Liberia (www.waii.org), where he obtained a Diploma with Distinction in Insurance and Risk Management in 1980. He furthered his studies in Risk Management by obtaining Masters Degree in Risk Management from Glasgow Caledonian University’s Business School in Glasgow, Scotland, UK (www.gcal.ac.uk). He is a member of the Institute of Risk Management (MIRM) of London, United Kingdom (www.theirm.org).

He has accumulated over 25 years of practical experience in Insurance, Insurance Loss Adjusting and Risk Management. His exposures in the Insurance Industry spanned all areas of Insurance Underwriting, Claims, Reinsurance, Survey and Risk Management having acquired vast experience by working with the major Underwriters in Nigeria and with training courses (including Swiss Re and Munich Re), seminars, and educational conferences all over the world.

Sammy has been very active in the Nigeria Insurance Industry and at the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) through his participation at many levels of the Institute's activities such as the Chief Examiner in Marine & Aviation Insurance. He had presented many lectures and papers at Seminars and written many articles on topics such as Fraud and Loss Prevention in Marine Insurance, Cargo Loss Prevention Programmes, and Technical Aspects of Property Insurance Underwriting. He has also delivered lectures on many insurance subjects including Marine Cargo & Hull (Underwriting, Claims and Adjustments).

He had also represented the Insurance Industry as a lecturer in the Anti-fraud Training School for Senior Police, Customs and Immigration Officers on Insurance and Fraud relating to Insurance in Nigeria; a part-time lecturer of Insurance at Lagos State Polytechnic, and an Associate Member of the Faculty of Risk Management (FARIM). He also lectures annually on Marine Hull (Underwriting, Claims and Adjustments) at the annual Marine Insurance Course organised by GLOBE REINSURANCE COMPANY LIMITED for Senior Managers from all over Africa.

He is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Loss Adjusters of Nigeria-ILAN (www.nigeriailan.org), who at one time was the Secretary to both the Examination Committee and the Legal/Constitution Committee and also the past President and Chairman of the Governing Council/Board of ILAN (2003-2007).
Mr Sammy Sotomi is also a member of the International Institute of Loss Adjusters Inc. – IILA (www.iila.com) of USA and Fellow of both the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria-CIIN (www.ciinigeria.com) and the International Federation of Adjusting Associations-IFAA, worldwide (www.adjustersworldwide.org).

Sammy Sotomi is the Chairman of EQUITY TRUST LOSS ADJUSTERS LTD, a loss adjusting firm of international repute. He is a specialist in Marine and Aviation Insurance (i.e. Marine Hull and Machinery Inspections, Surveys, Valuations and Average Adjusting), and a seasoned Loss Adjuster in all classes of general insurance business. He also serves as Risk Consultant and Manager for many multinationals organisations in areas of manufacturing and telecommunications.

SAMMY SOTOMI is married with children, has travelled widely around the world and plays squash.  He belongs to many Insurance and Non-Insurance Organisations including Sport and Social Clubs.  He also likes meeting people, reading books of general interests, internet research on subject matter of various interests.
